Thanks Jordy. This tutorial is awesome.
I made a bag with some fabric found at Goodwill. I didn't put in any velcro or fastener because it was a first attempt and I just wanted to see what would happen.
I was psyched that it came out so nice.

dose anyone no a good way to make ur own clothing tags for bags and stuff or were u can get some made
IF YOU DO PLEASE EMAIL ME AT XXLILZESTYXX@AOL.COM!
thanks jackie
jackie - if you go to a good crafts supply store or even some office supply stores you can get something called iron-on transfer paper - this is one example, but there are lots of different brands out there.
http://www.epson.com.au/products/consumables/ironon_paper.asp
You print on it with your printer, then you can iron it onto fabric. Make a whole page of your labels, print them on the paper, and iron it onto some fabric. Cut 'em out, and you have your labels!
jordy, love the bag, especially with the tweed! I made one for my daughter for Christmas - once you get all the logistics straight of right and wrong sides, it's really fun! I'll post a picture soon.

OK, here's the pics of my finished bag (first time using
photobucket - hope this works!)
jordy, I did mine almost identical to yours, except that instead of cutting the squares out of mine, I did mine as 3 pieces (both the lining and the outside) - 2 identical rectangles, and one long strip of fabric that served as both the sides and bottom of the bag. I did this because I wanted to do the cording on the edges, and it was easier for me to do it this way. The cording is just the interior lining fabric around the cheapy cotton cording stuff you buy, and instead of interfacing, I used a leftover piece of quilt batting (I've used everything from old blankets to old cloth diapers for batting!). I sewed the closing flap in when I sewed in the lining and handles - a bit bulky to work with, but did the job great!
My daughter uses it for preschool and ballet - it was fun to make!

OMGosh!! the bag is beautiful!!!!!!!!! i really love it--a lot!!!!! are you sewing the batting down onto the fabric first and then sewing it all together or just sewing it all together while you put the bag together? also, do i see stitches on the front of the bag--like quilting style??? it is really awesome!

Thanks comfits, it was fun to make! Yep, I machine quilted the batting to the exterior fabric first. I just did 2 lines of machine stitching in each direction - top to bottom, side to side, about 3" apart - before attaching the cording, as I didn't want to see the quilting on the inside - you could do it the other way around too, I suppose! Then just sew it as if the batting wasn't there. The finished dimensions on the bag are approx. 10"x13", and I felt the batting would move around too much if I didn't attach/anchor it in some way. I also put the batting in the closing flap and the handles - like I said, it was for my 3 year old, so I figured the more substantial, the better!

pikegami, I love that bag - it looks so great! Did you use something to stiffen the handle - I love the way it is so perfectly shaped!
