Not *the* Willie Nelson... (ATHF amigurumi)

I recently did the Adult Swim Swap; my partner was moxiepurple. I decided to base all of my crafts on her favorite episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force - "The Shaving" - a Halloween episode complete with a purple Meatwad ("The Incredible Plum"), Frylock in a sailor hat, and a mysterious onion/garlic monster named Willie Nelson. I already had a few ideas of what I was making (a shirt, a necklace) and then I had a brilliant idea. I would make Willie Nelson. It had to be easy, right? Surely there was an onion pattern somewhere online! I found one on Ravelry and set to work. However, the pattern didn't turn out looking much like Willie Nelson (reference pic), so I frogged the whole thing and made it up as I went along. Body is ww acrylic and I used a G hook. His legs are made from pipe cleaners threaded through his body and twisted together. They cross in the middle of the inside for extra stability; he's completely free-standing. His face is made from felt with fabric paint details. His "beard" is simply some yarn tied onto the bottom and frayed. I had so much fun making this, I couldn't look at it without giggling. I'm a recent ATHF fan. I used to think the series was stupid and made no sense, but when I realized that its nonsensical nature is what makes it so funny, I came around. :p

Somehow I missed seeing this episode, I think. I don't remember any of it. o.o Still, the only ATHF I've seen has been on the DVD sets, so if it's a newer episode, that's why. I recognized the style right away though. xD GREAT job!

I tweaked this pattern - Small Onion & Turnip. I used the onion instructions but increased the number of small rounds at the top. I just kept referring to the picture and seeing if it looked right - I usually frog something a few times before I'm happy with it and this was no exception. I'm fairly sure I made the main "body" size larger, as well. The pattern I linked is a good start, though. Just make the "tip" longer (don't increase right away after round 2) and add a round or two to the middle bit.

I'm still surprised this many (being, you know, like, eight) people have seen this episode. Heh. This is why I love Craftster.
