Recycled glass, tumbled glass tiles, tumbled pottery shards, broken beads and some fused pieces. Grouted with sanded grout and sealed.  I won't be doing any food prep here.

The thing that looks like a snake is a broken ceramic snake.  And it took me for ever because I cut and tumbled a lot of the glass and pottery to get off the sharp edges and I had to cut and nip glass and dishes.  I also used lampworked beads that cracked in the kiln and less than perfect fused pieces along with some ceramic times I made long ago.  I the gluing in two stages (after learning that thinset is not good for use with mirrors- I used another glue for them, I forget which but anyone who does mosaics knows it).  I also did the grouting in two stages and after a week, I sealed the grout.

If you really want to see some great mosaic work, Google Isiah Zagar's Magic gardens.  They're right down the street from me.
