One of my friends got a lathe awhile ago, and when he asked what my fiancee and I wanted for our wedding, I told him I wanted him to make me a spindle.

He did, and it's totally awesome.

It's 14" long, 3.5 oz, and really, really great.  There's a little knob on the bottom, so yarn can't creep off the end and I have something to grip to spin it, and it's pointy so I can do supported spinning, and the whole thing is HUGE so I can put a ton on there, which is great for plying.

First project, on the spindle.

And finished.
Anonymous wool, 128 yards, 2.25 oz.
It spins like a dream.
I tried to convince my friend to start an etsy store, but apparently it was a pain to do, he said "Seriously, I'm only going to do stuff like that for people I really like."  One of the prototypes exploded.
Can't wait to spin more on it....

LOL!!  you are one lucky girl!
It's a beautiful spindle,  what a great feature, that little knob on the bottom!  And that yarn looks near perfect!  love the colors!
