So...I really want to start having some sort of knitting magazine stash that I can hide myself in druing really stressful exam/finals times...but I can't go to B&N or a LYS to look because I live on an island...in the Caribbean...and they don't knit much besides socks and Rasta hats here.

So...do any of you have advice on good hip-pish worthy magazines to subscribe to?  What's your fav, etc, and why?

Thanks.

My friend is moving to the Virgin Islands this summer.  She should be bringing a lot of knitting stuff  or I will be sending it to her, or bringing when I visit.  I don't know where she'll be living yet, but if you want I can give her your info, because I know she'd love to have someone to knit with.

I really like Interweave Knits, and if you look on Ebay there are TONS of vintage knitting magazines for auction all the time. But be prepared for teeny needles.

So you can't get magazines because you live on an island in the Caribbean....why do I not feel sorry for you? Smiley

You could try Vogue Knitting, which a lot of people like. I have a subscription to Interweave Knits which isn't exactly the most hip one, but is still good for ideas and inspiration. I totally love Rebecca, but they do not offer subscriptions (believe me, I tried). They want you to buy it at a store, BUT I managed to get a back issue on eBay so definitely check that out! Here's their website: http://www.rebecca-online.com/
They have pics of the patterns so you can decide which issues you want to hunt down. It's expensive, but there are TONS of patterns in each issue. If you decide to order an issue going back more than a year make sure it comes with the English insert (unless you are fluent in German). They recently started publishing an English version in the last year (I think issues 28 and 29 are in English).

Interesting. I contacted them and they told me they don't offer individual subscriptions. Even the yarn store I go to can't get copies because they don't buy enough of that company's yarn. Of course, this is in the US - are you elsewhere?

that's weird.  i'm in the us as well.  ill look up how i got my subscription and ill post it here for you.  ive been subscribed for maybe a year and when i started it i also ordered some back issues.  they all came with the english translation and a list of the yarns and the us prices.  and like you said, the new ones are printed in english now.

Ooooh...

Thanks for the ideas  ;-)

As for the Caribbean (hey - it's not ALL a party!
Yeah...the lady at the fabric store looks at me really funny when I go in to get more yarn.  At first...they had like 3 colors of red heart...::sigh::  And I didn't bring any needles with me when I came, so I went there to see if they had some...and they did...but they were TEENY!!  So then I made some and got on my kick and then ordered my Denise set...which I can't put down....needless to say, whenever I get back to the states, I load up on stash-worthy material and guard it with my life.

I have the SnB books...but I want MORE  Wink

But yeah...thanks for the ideas!  keep 'em coming if you've got 'em  Grin
