Well, honestly I'm not really sure how big the material was but I can tell you that the stitch length makes all the difference when you're shirring on the machine.  If you want it to be loose/bigger then you set it to 2.5 stitchlength or thereabouts.  For much, much tighter you have to use the longest stitches of all, on my machine is 5.  I use shirring on my daughter's clothing a lot, and I almost always use the 4.  I used the 2.5 on this at first and it was HUGE.  After sewing it together with french seams and making 5 or 6 lines of stitching that were with the "4" setting it was better fitting- but still hopefully able to fit on my sister, who is very busty.  UPS says the package is being delivered today and i am biting my nails in anticipation of her receiving it and all.

I am curious WHAT the lotus is made of? Part of me thinks its felt but the more purply layer almost looks like craft foam.
