I too think it looks awesome, but I personally think that little guy needs more room.  The myth about the smaller the tank/bowl, the happier the betta is total BS.
Bettas are tropical fish, which means they are happiest with warm water, so they need a heater.

A lady I knew when I was a kid had one of these, and I've wanted one ever since! I have not been able to find one though, and had no idea how to go about making one. I know nothing about the inner mechanics of one of these, so forgive the question: how do you keep the water from coming out?

But we have flamethrowers. And what this indicates to me, it means that at some point, some person said to himself, "Gee, I sure would like to set those people on fire over there. But I'm way too far away to get the job done. If only I had something that would throw flame on them."

it looks beautiful!  how creative and neat!

a while ago someone else did something like this with a betta in it, and there was a big hullabaloo about it being inhumane for the fishy.  im not sure if its *that* horrible (i mean, you feed it and make sure it has a clean home and all, which is a lot better then what have sometimes had, lol), but, i was wondering if there is another type of fish that would be good for a small space like that?  because i want a cool looking fish tank too!!!

Exactly!

OK this may look cool, but it is wrong to keep a living creature in these conditions. In the UK this would be considered unacceptably cruel. I have kept tropical fish for many years and wouldn't keep a Betta in anything that small. My betta tank was 12"x18"x10" and my fish were extremely happy and the male often displayed his beautiful fins instead of having them drooping down like the fish in the picture.
All captive fish require filtration of some kind, they are living beings and should not be forced to breathe their own waste!
