Flower Brooch made entirely of pistachio shells! - REPOST- MORE PICTURES!!

These Brooches are definitely some of my favorite! These are my pistachio shell brooches, made entirely out of pistachio shells which are all hot glued onto a wooden disk and then painted different colors. I LOVE pistachios and for some reason struggle to throw away those cute little shells. I was determined to make something out of them!

These brooches are 3 1/2" and less than 1" tall.





I painted the red one by hand, and added a slight gold finish on the outside.



The brown and green one were spray painted, which was WAY easier!





It's just expensive to buy a ton of colors in spray paint, not to mention I have to go outside!

I am so glad you reposted this as I was sooo curious after seeing the tiny thumbnails.  I can't decide if I like the green or brown one more.  They are really fun to look at.  From the top they don't look like pistachio shells. 

Just wondering, are they heavy?

Just wondering, are they heavy? 

No, in fact they are really light! the wooden disk is pine which is super light and then the shells are really lightweight as well, these aren't like sea shells which can be quite heavy when clustered.

And to answer another question, pistachio shells are partially split when you get them and then you just split it apart to get the nut, kind of like oysters. pistachios are like "bicuspids" (Oh man pulling out my high school biology lingo!).
