Being able to make things has gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life. In the wake of the September 11 disaster I couldn't pull myself away from the news on tv... I didn't want to eat, I hardly slept... it was devastating... as everyone knows.
I had to do something... and decided I'd make a gigantic patriotic teddy bear ...then donate it to some charity. Well, if you decide to make a giant anything...shipping can get rather pricey. So I still have the bear...as a constant reminder of how I coped in those dark days following the attacks.

My kids have enjoyed it as a fun photo prop. I named the bear after my dad who is a volunteer fire fighter.

*forgot to mention... I made the pattern ...and he's one of a kind. I don't think I'll make a stuffed animal quite this big again... unless I finally make a rocking horse I've been meaning to do.  Wink

LOL! ...it took about 15 bags! I think the materials total on him at the time was close to $250.
