slightly affected by his enumeration of the windows in front of the house, and his relation of what the glazing altogether had originally cost Sir Lewis de Bourgh."
Basically, what Mr. Collins is bragging about here is his patronesses ability to pay taxes for so many windows.  It put it into an interesting perspective for me.

Fascinating!
Bet you Lady CdeB cheated on her taxes.

Also, in the late 18th-early 19th century, the technology/technique for making large panes of glass was greatly improved, so big new windows were a terrific status symbol. Mr Collins is also bragging about how high-tech Rosings is.

I have been reading P&P since I was 16. Even after 13 years I am still learning things about it. Smiley

HEY EVERYBODY!
Sorry I've been absent as of lately. If you are going to send late you need to PM me & your partner. Let us know how the crafting's coming! I've only heard from 1/2 of Knit_core, Adaa, and my self. We only have 1 sender so far, right?

I think its great to have great books given as high school assignments, or else I would have never read On the Road, the Tao of Pooh & many others! Actually I hadn't read Pride & prejudice till a few years ago.(Who went to a hippie school? I DID!) But I had always adored the 95' version, and pleased by other incarnations. I think that's one of the things I really love about the story, how it can change but still in essence have the core .

Absolutely! Did you see the Bollywood flick BRIDE AND PREJUDICE, set in India and California? Terrific version, truth universally acknowledged!
