My boyfriend deployed to Afghanistan earlier this year and I wanted to give him a very special present/memento to keep his spirits up while he's over there!  I wanted something light so he could keep it with him and small enough to fit in his pocket soooo naturally altoid tin!

To fill it I cut heavy cardboard to size and spray-glued a light canvas so it would fold accordion style.  On each panel I put things important to him.

He's a photographer so I cut out photos he's taken from a contact sheet and collaged them, I put a quote that says "I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long.  If we're in each others dreams, we can play together all night."  The next panel I painted a can of sprite, he calls me his "cold sprite on a hot day" hehe.  Next is a picture of us in NYC on our first date, and the last is a two-bit painting of a camera.  On the otherside I wrote him a note and I filled the box with wallet sized photos of his friends, family and us.

He says he takes it out everyday when he is feeling sad or down and it instantly makes him feel better!  While he's over there he's filling it with different things like a pressed tree leaf.

Anyway thanks for looking!  This is my very first post!

Oh and I'm sorry about the lame pic, it was taken on deployment day...

I think this is really neat and I like the story behind it. I especially like the painting of the camera.
