Oilcloth snack pouches

I made a couple of these reusable oilcloth-lined snack pouches yesterday. Thanks to Mamaedgar for her tutorial which can be found here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=316091.0

I changed the dimensions slightly, topstitched all the way around the top, and pressed the finished box to give it that  nice, crisp, envelope shape. I've drafted 2 more patterns today, one for a mini-box, one for a more rectangular shape pouch to take the 1/2 sandwich i usually eat for lunch. I'll send pictures along of those too!

Those look really great!  Have you tried anything that would go flat like chips or crackers?  I'd be curious how they do in them.  I've already got the kids using sandwich wraps.. this would be a great addition to my eco friendly push.

These are great! Quick question, do you have to take any special precautions when sewing on oilcloth?

No, it's really easy to sew! The only thing is when you are topstitching if the oilcloth is on the bottom the feed dogs on my machine didn't pull the fabric through very easily. I had to kind of guide it along as i was sewing.

Here's the template I made for this project for those of you who are interested! It's not to scale so can't be traced as a pattern but simply draw the box using the measurements shown and cut it out! Cut out one of the liner and one of the outer fabric. Dtitch up the 4 corners, right sides together on both pieces. Attach elastic to top right side of the liner. Set the outer piece inside the liner, right sides together, and stitch all around the top leaving a 3 inch opening on one side. Cut corners and turn. Press and topstitch all the way around. Attach button. Voila!

If anyone needs more detailed directions please let me know. I'm going to make more so i'd be happy to make a full tute.

Cool!  Where do you get such cute oilcloth?  I'd like to try some of these.  And I second the question about how well they keep things like crackers that could go stale?

I've been using them for the past week, and i take Goldfish or baked kettle chips almost daily to eat with my lunch. I haven't had a problem with staleness as long as i eat what i pack on the same day. there was one day that i didn't eat the fishies and they sat until 3 days later - they had gone stale. but if it's less than 12 hours it's been fine.
