I'm a Craftster BEST OF 2013 Winner!

I was gifted (or rather dumped upon) a quantity of paper trinket/treasure/jewelry boxes. They were cute, but how many yellow butterfly boxes can you have? I have an idea of making some special boxes for a fundraiser next fall. Here's the first one.

And here's the original

I started with Mod-Podging old book pages to all sides.

Then I layered up paint, used dryer sheets, paper bag strips and some meshy/glittery Christmas fabric. Layers of M-P, sometimes tinted with a bit of metallic paint. I wasn't happy with the results so I kept layering. One mistake was most of the pieces I added were all of similar size, I realized later that that was one of the things that bothered me.

The inside I painted with a metallic copper. I glued fabric to cover the inside box and felt on the bottom. It did not turn out as I was envisioning (what does) but I got many brainstorms along the way for other boxes. All in all, it was fun. Will I make more? Only the Craft Goddess knows. Ohh good idea. A goddess theme, and a map/travel theme, and an ocean theme...........

I like your box, and I love the colors you ended up with!  Great ideas for future boxes, too!

What a difference from the original box!  And I love the idea of using dryer sheets for texture-and recycling!

Dryer sheets? ha ha ha, love the end result, and I do believe if you are not happy with the way something looks, just keep adding to it.
