Flower Fan-tastic Hand Held Fan

This is my first entry and I am a bit of a noob to the group.  I have totally enjoyed the other entries - what a wonderful group of ideas and creative people you all are! 

I was at a football game last week and really wanted a fan to move the air and the gnats.  I searched and searched and did not find anything.  I remember having the collapsible kind when I was younger - and sadly my small town doesn't have any!  So I made my own for a few bucks!


Materials: 1- Hair pick
1 - Calendar
1 - few pages of craft, card stock or scrap book paper
double sided tape
embroidery floss or yarn

Cut out fan shapes from calendar pictures and craft paper and stick together with tape. Punch holes around the edges and crochet with floss. **Optional: tassels and crocheted cord for decoration.  I used a wax seal and embossed my initial on the handle too.

Weave fan into the tines of pick and wrap cord around handle - done!

Make several blade styles for any occasion and for friends.
Stay fashionably cool on hot days.

I think you did a real nice job on these. I give you a lot of credit for jumping right in on this challenge to start! After taking a good look at your fans, I realized that even tho simple, it is a brilliant idea, and a nice old-fashioned feminine piece.
I was wondering, if the fans are tied securly to the comb? Perhaps you could drill a hole thru the handle in one or 2 spots, and run a crocheted cord to tie on? Just an idea... it was hard to tell if they are secure.
In any fashion, it is nice to see a lady-like touch at a football game, or anywhere!

Thank you KLKing, no the fans are not tied - by weaving the blades between the tines they stay very secure and don't not slip out.  I made several extra blades to change them and create a different looks.  You could use any picture or logo or what have you really and the handle is used over and over.  Thanks for the idea and comments.
