EDIT:OMG WOW, thank you to everyone that hit "this rocks!" button. This is my first project posted ever, and now it's been featured. Thank you!  Kiss

SO, this is my final for my 3D design class I took in my spring semester for a 3D design class. The assignment was make an "awesome diorama" of anything. As long as it was awesome. Exact words. I thought I was going to kill my teacher after a week of trying to think of something awesome.

I was sitting in my grandpa's kitchen one night, playing with some cardboard. And I looked around his kitchen and decided what I was going to do. This was the result, I hope you all enjoy it.  Cheesy

Introducing the tenant - made from wire, foil, polymer clay and hand painted

The completed kitchen - the beads/charms were not made by me, but everything else was. Base is foam core, paper mache, and layers of paint. The refrigerators, cabinets and counters were made with the same materials.

Top of cabinets - with real dust! (It's been sitting in my bedroom since the last critique Tongue)

Another cabinet view - I was so proud of them

Hidden charm in cabinets

Curtain details

Carpet details - added the beads, because it looked too plain and flat on the floor

Fridge 1

Fridge 2 - another hidden charm

Grandpa's kitchen for comparison.  Cheesy

Obligatory kitty shot, she gives some size perspective as well as looking cute!

Comments much appreciated!

I got an A in the course, so I believe the grade was an A also. Our prof never really wrote a grade down for us. All I know is after two weeks and seeing a few mock ups of the cabinets/fridges he was worried about it turning out okay.  Cheesy

It looks like it could be a set for a hidden object computer game.  Great perspective and scale.  And I love the cat shot.

BTW, you are very good with your camera.

Seraphina: Thanks for the comment,  now you make me want to try out a small stop motion thing with it. Maybe not today though. Or ever, I'm lazylazy.  Lips sealed

pinkokeeo: There's actually another hidden object at the bottom of the sink area. My camera couldn't grab a snazzy picture of it though. Pepper, my cat, really wanted to play with the little guy.

Thank you for noticing my pictures! I tried to make them look good for all of my fellow craftsters.  Cheesy

And my zoom couldn't see it either.  Yes, I am actually nerdy enough that I tried to see whatever was there. Cheesy

Still, it all looks great.

mafiosagrrl: I'm glad you like it, dust and all. I actually had to wipe it down a bit, before I took pictures, there was thick layer of dust. > >;

pinokeeo: Wow, I just realized I spelled your username horrible wrong the first time. Sorry about that. Anyway, the charms at the VERY bottom, even with a zoom, you wouldn't be able to see it in those pictures.

BUT, here's a top view and you can see it easily now. Smiley

ulcdmj and juneapostrophe: I didn't even notice the similarities until you guys brought both of those things up! And I dig Tool videos, thought was completely not even thinking about them when making it. I also loved watching District 9 - and maybe the visuals made me love it more.  Cheesy

I've started making a new house (without time constraints!), this time it's going to be multiple stories (two stories and an attic) - I'm still working out the main construction of the piece at the moment.

really cool work !!! I love everything about it! You should to a stopmotion of him cooking something (like previous craftsters have said)
What did your teacher think about it?
And about the dust thing, I know about this, we also have to make stuff for school and when you get a grade, I don't know what to do with it so it gets piled up at my dorm/room at home and loads and loads of dust Cheesy

Okay, now I'm so have to figure out how to do a little stop motion in the future.

My teacher thought it was awesome. He knew I was torturing myself over the whole thing since the moment he assigned it. And I definitely know he was kind of surprised at how finished it turned out - the project was all over the place.

Glad to know that other people's projects are dust gatherers. I know I have a HUGE pair of ostrich wings stuffed into a shed at the moment. No idea what to do with them.  Cheesy

Make the wings wall art, lol! Thats what I did with a pair I made for a costume, they are too stiff to stick in a box, so they hang on the wall next to one of my art tables in my office.

Love love love love love this project! Stop motion would be fantastic with it. The character reminds me a bit of the aliens in the attic movie creatures but darker like 9. And I always love darker ^_~

Anywho, love it! Can't wait to see your two story now.

Well done, well done!!  Not only do I adore miniature things, but you did a great job using your brush to create a mood in the walls and cupboards, and the placement of all of the glued-on objects (wall-hangings,etc.) is just top-notch.  The tenant made my jaw drop, it is wonderful beyond wonderful.  It all made me smile so much.  Thanks for the great pics.

blupaisan: I'm glad the kitchen makes you smile, I think that's one of the greatest parts of creating things for me, is making others enjoy it.  Grin

Ekioart: I tried starting the two story - however it was all too much and I'm going for a complete one story now. Smaller scale and with a roof. WIP posted in OP.  Cheesy

CamOovas - I'm starting to love dioramas too! The internet definitely needs more of them.
