Easy, Colorful, Durable Garden Markers

Last weekend I used a few kitchen tiles to mark my seedlings and thought that they would look great with a little embellishment.  I decorated the top half and buried the tile halfway upright in the ground.

I used Porcelaine ceramic markers that I found on sale.  The illustrations only took a few minutes.  I let them dry overnight and baked them in my oven for 35 minutes at 300 degrees.  The color is supposed to be dishwasher safe, so it should hold up to the elements.  I can clean them with just a blast of the hose.

WOW! I wouldnt have even thought of that! That is a really good idea. I think I have some hunter green tiles running around here somewhere.... not much use those are!

mmmm i'm taking charge of the garden this year... maybe i should make them! our 'stick the seed package on a stick' always seems to blow away or get tattered fromt he rain.

where do you buy the tiles and the markers?

The tiles are the 4 inch ones from the hardware store and cost about 14 cents each.  The markers can be found at most big craft stores.  I've seen them at Michaels and they are sold online here.  I bought mine at a closeout store for a little less.
