I got super lucky, and got to Dollar General while they were putting everything summer/outdoors on 50-75% clearance!

My materials:

One foam noodle ($.75 on sale)
Set of 3 green washcloths (didn't end up using)
3 container tray ($.50 on sale)
One vinyl table cloth ($2 on sale)
One bottle baby wash ($1.50)
Small storage cups ($1)
Small drops on tempura paints
thread
Acrylic paint (for bubbles on tray)

$5.75 project? I'm so in.

The process!

I used an exacto knife and also a utility knife on the foam to carve shapes. The first one I drew on at first, so there are still sharpie outlines on a few. The rest I just winged. The hardest part of my project was thinking of designs I could do while avoiding the whole in the middle.

This carving process made quite a mess (which my boyfriend was just sooo happy about:P)

Said mess hung out there until I finished the project and finally got to cleaning!
I ended up with 26 stamps, but later made another not pictured here (the bubble), but you will later see anyways.

I will list what the stamp images are when I try them out later!!

Next came the paints! This was the part I was sort of worried about, but then I found this online: http://kidscrafts.suite101.com/article.cfm/body_paints_for_kids and tested it out. I made 10 colors. The brown ended up changing and turning very dark, though I'm not sure why. The light purple I made later on for my testing.

This shows all of the stamps together except I think just one simple shape.

Top row: Moose, and... a moose. Elijah (my nephew) likes mooses!
2nd row: Fudge striped cookie, duck, sun, button, kitty, fishy
3rd row: Heart, flower, spider, tree, top hat, smiley face
4th row: Football, bubble, triangle, doughnut (sprinkled of course!), whale, puppy
5th row: Sea shell, block O (Ohio State fans, of course), leaf, square, bear, circle

Close-ups (because I LOVE the cookie and the doughnut!!)

The paint came off entirely! Not even a tiny bit stained on the grout. Decided to then have a little more fun with them...

...and stamped bubbles all over the walls!

I then made a bag to hold the stamps out of the table cloth (sorry I didn't have a before picture of it, or a standing up-right after picture) and painted simple bubbles on the paint tray.

annnd everything together!

I can't wait to send these to my nephew! My S-I-L said he really digs stuff like this. He's an excellent finger painter at a mere 2 1/2! Thanks for checking my project out, sorry for all the pics, and good luck to all in the challenge! Can't wait to see what else pops up!

Woah - totally awesome and unexpected use of the items purchased!
I'm sure your nephew will love it (and it looks like you'll be making a second set to keep for yourself!)  I love how you painted the bubbles on the shower wall---it's like leaving behind temporary art for someone else to find.  Then they can do the same for you!  Loving it!

I forgot to mention the recipe for the paints was labeled as a temporary body paint, so it can be used for that, or for finger painting on the walls. I made the batch of light purple and even though the containers are small, only went through about 1/3 of the paint, which was easily poured back into the container due to the square shape of the tray.

Again, thanks for all the wonderful comments! I'd be more than happy to answer questions, but I think I may have covered it all! Smiley

Thank you so much! I actually get nervous in front of cameras and can't help to let out my silliest, cheesiest smile:P The lighting in there sure did make me look tan!

I'm 21, and I had an awful lot of fun playing with these! My boyfriend helped me and he was even having a blast cleaning them, we just turned water on in the sink and he stamped them clean:P
A man who STAMPS?! I know, I know, I couldn't be any luckier:)

I love the way you saw possibilities in the ordinary swim noodle. You might start a nationwide trend of swim noodle printmaking.

That would be fantastic! I hope if anyone else posts some, I see them! SERIOUSLY, IF YOU MAKE ANY, LINK ME TO YOUR POST!! I had a hard time with the hole in the middle of the noodle, and would love to see anyone else's take on them.

Only the greatest use for a noodle, EVER.  We made swords out of one...worked much better than the plastic golf clubs my son HAD been playing pirate with.  I'll be buying one (on clearance, of course...God bless the season) and making some stamps too!  Wonderful idea!!!
