I love CRAFTSTER and check out this site whenever I get stumped on work projects. I am the lead seamstress of a large production company and make anything and everything the clients want for their custom events and parties. It is really fun but some time really stressful. I usually have a ridiciously tight time line- but have never missed a dead line! This time it is one more white vintage looking Vegas style show girl git up exactly like in my previous post:

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=317022.0

and six red ten bikini style suits for a grand opening of a casino. I have a month this time around....thank goodness. What do you think?

Enjoy - and check out my white show girl post!  Cheesy

some quick sketches and some different versions

So four days of solid shopping I *think* I got everything for my six sets and the other white one.

epaulets for the white costume

this is iffy...

MOCK UP MOCK UP MOCK UP! Wow, for once I have time (a month) to make a mock up! YIPEE

just pinned for the mock up

my mock up sporting the belt

Tim Gunn's words ring in my ears "MAKE IT WORK" as I leave for the day...

SUIT #1

love them cheap bras!

I love you mr. industrial, never ceases to amuse me- only one broken needle

hot glue is freaking amazing...and FREAKIN HOT!

trim as close as possible

in front of the wall of trim

coming along nicely! now... to make seven more....

will post more pictures tomorrow- it's late now! Any feed back is great! Smiley

the floor after the first one....these babies were everywhere- even in my bra! Wink

It's exhausting looking at it!

How will you finsh the inside so it isn't scratchy?

I guess you can't really adjust the sequins much, but would contouring them a little bit around the bra (like on the mock-up) make for a more flattering line?

I really like the idea of the little skirt part as I think it adds a bit of class - if that's what you call it for a showgirl outfit!

I run a line of ribbon on the inside so it doesnt scratch. I figured by the time I get the 'bling' on the contour of the sequins won't be noticed, although, I do agree I like the mock up contour shapes! Since this is only one of six ten, I will experiment with each one!!

After googling hours of show girl costumes, I found that the majority of them wear little (or a lot) sarongs- especially the dancers. It's a fun prop usually that tears away for high kicks and such. I liked all the sarongs I saw and had a hard time deciding how I wanted to construct mine. It turned out short in the sketches, but ultimately, it will be the client that decides if it's okay or not. I had to submit my sketches and am still waiting- and with only a month to make all these babies- I got started!!  Shocked

The white show girl costume, the skirt started out short- and the client wanted a long one. I was a little sad at first because I had the short skirt and the entire costume all completed and they waited, oh, you know, about 12 hours before the party to request a long skirt. No problem- just a tad annoying. Luckily it was just the sarong and those are easy!  Roll Eyes

Bling! Bling!

what my needles look like after stitching the rhinestone strands on!!

using the cheap panty as my base

and red tee shirt material for the middle layer

then the cool outer layer

serge all three layers together w/ a strip of elastic

red belt maybe?

gold belt!

there we go- the gold as the band on the panties, the red w/ a sarong stitched to it as can use as a 'tear away' skirt for dance numbers...

looks like my sketches!!

need a few more things: gloves, head dress, necklace, rhinestone strands off of bra and shoe bling! Times five...

my feathers came in today and soo didn't match. They sent the wrong color....

Serious amounts of tedious sewing. I had a large order of football jerseys (nameplates, numbers), getting winter coats and hunting coats for new zippers and lots of regular hems. I think I had fifty hems last week.

I was thinking of just inventing my own project to be busy with for a while Wink Something involving feathers, me thinks...

Wow, looks very time intensive but it is coming along nicely.  Very clever using undergarments for the base and building on to them!

It will be fun to see how this progresses so hope you keep posting on this.

Since you work with costumes, I wanted to share this link with you for a tutorial for a Burlesque Bustle Skirt that you might me able to use sometime that was posted by Becca K. at Cutout and Keep.  She also has a few other interesting costume pieces that might give you inspiration also if you click on her profile then her projects.

Happy crafting!

So the event is FINALLY HERE TOMORROW! And the count has gone up to ten red costumes- no white ones at all...

Here are some photos from fitting the girls- I will post photos tomorrow after the event!

BTW- the event is during intermission at the Jobing.com Arena with the Phoenix Coyotes hockey team if you get a chance to watch the game on tv! It starts at 5 pm Mountain Time.

Here we go! Some group shots! Turned out so awesome except for the owner of Jobing.Com Arena didn't like how 'nude' (and that there was a lot of kids at the hockey game) they were so originally he was going to cut the entire half time dance/show. MY boss didn't like that very much (neither did I) so we talked him in to letting the girls wear the white out tee shirts.

But you know me-- I can't live with just a plain tee shirt- chopped up the back, tied them really tight and cinched up the sleeves....

Let me know what you think!

The opening of the casino is Oct 30 and they will be wearing the original costumes on that day. I will post pics of that day as well.

Enjoy--

This was the dress rehersal out on the ice--- the too riskee dance that got cut and before the white tees....

Dancing with the white tees...

getting ready

red feathers everywhere!!

it was COLD down there on the ice!
