I started off with two ideas when I hit the Dollar Tree and neither panned out due to they didnt have what i needed. (the lady at the counter was probably thinking i was about to take up residence i was there so long with my basket in hand) So, what is a girl to do? Think of some of her favorite things for inspiration... Stephen King, Scarlet O'Hara, Victorian attire, Labyrinth, and Zoolander of course!
So Once I spotted the thin black plastic table cloths....i knew just what to do!

Here are the supplies i started with: (i know one of the table cloths is bunchy in the pic, but thats because i got overly excited to begin and started to open it and take it out when the "oh i gotta take a pic of this first!" hit me...so i stuffed it back in )

2 black plastic table cloths
1 oval basket
1 roll of tulle ribbon
1 votive (used the cameo off the front of it)
1 pkg of paper lace doilies
2 bunches of flower stems
1 pk of black electrical tape
1 little pkg of clay flowers
10 items total!

I didn't use a pattern, just took some measurements and adjusted my dress form to size, got out the ole scissors with an idea in my head and started cutting away.
I used the black electrical tape for the piecing/construction of the dress and the hat as well. no thread, just tape! lol

I  folded the lace doilies various ways and applied them at the neck and down the bodice, and other areas using the tape.

For the hat I covered the basket with some of the remaining black table cloth and made a tie with some tulle and fixed an adornment with folded doilies for lace and some artificial flowers from one of the floral bunches & the little clay flowers.

I ended up with the lace doilies in various places on the dress, the neck, bust, top of the sleeves, and at the bottom gathers and bustle in the back. I used the extra tulle and some flowers for the tie around the waist and the cameo and a flower at the neck for a brooch.

It was so much fun to make, and it was interesting the day of the pics, it was a rather windy day lol, so it was tough getting good shots. thin black plastic and winds = cling wrap! haha  Cheesy

with the style of the dress, we couldn't help but to take some sepia shots for effect. Smiley

Anyway, thanks for looking and if you decide to give my little creation your vote, thanks a bunch! I am thinking of wearing it for Halloween since my kiddo is going as something like Cinderella..and then i guess i can look like the wicked stepmother!  Wink

That is fabulous! I love the ruffles so much!

Little fyi for anyone, you can iron most plastic bags (trash bags, groceries bags, vinyl table cloths, ect) and get a real hardy seam out of it. Just make sure to use tracing/butcher paper over the plastic!

We made huge inflatable objects for a design class (some one did a huge palm tree, another did a GIGANTIC cupcake!), and a lot of people used the vinyl table cloth from the dollar store.  Cheesy

Thanks everyone for the comments!
the McGyver one made me chuckle! he was a nifty fella wasnt he?

And i still have loads of doilies! it was a pack of 90! lol, i think they will be used later on at my kiddos bday party or for tea parties Smiley

crazyalien8~ thanks for the nice comments & tip, but lol, it was such a windy day out no matter what i did it looked all wrinkly for the pics, but as far as the seams, i cut out the bodice as you would any other article of clothing being made and pieced with the electrical tape in place of sewing. lol, this plastic was/is super thin! i tried to find a vinyl one, alas nope. unless i wanted the cream shower curtain and that just wouldnt do the trick  Wink or ermmm...at least not for what my theme was...

That looks fabulous! In some of the sepia shots it looks like real fabric. Even though the dress is awesome, I think my favourite parts are the hat and the doily decor. Great dollar store project Cheesy

This was a fabulously creative entry. Some of us went for the practical but this was great! I have shared it with a few people who were equally amazed. Great work!!
