Hm... nothing comes immediately to mind. I never thought of making things from straws. I'm going to check out that drinking straw tag!

Oh: another question - Is it okay if the straws aren't visible? (but are still a main part of the project)

Use your best judgement with this one.  You want to make the straw(s) the feature one way or another.
