They are! You can see the preliminary casting on IMDb. So far I like what they've done. Obviously they had to raise Daenerys's age, lol.

(not that HBO cares how i feel) but so far, i'm pretty happy with casting choices.  except for Lena Headey (sara connor chronicles, 300) as cersei (it's not on imdb yet, but it's been announced).  not sure i'm digging that one yet.  cersei's such an awesome crazy bitch, i'm just not sure about her.  but then again, almost every hbo show i've every seen has had amazing casting.  so i have to keep my faith in that Smiley

I like her and will allow it; cause, ya know, they consulted me. Wink She was pretty commanding in 300 and while Cersei is definitely crazy (and not terribly bright, as we discover in book 4), she's assertive and has a presence about her. I think Lena has the potential for that.

My only curiosity is Sean Bean for Eddard. I mean, *** SPOILER START *** that seems like a lot of money for a guy who dies in book 1... *** SPOILER END ***

My big ASoIF crush is Sandor Clegane, aka The Hound. I can't wait to see who they cast for him. I know historically Martin has always said he would have cast Ron Perlman (mmmmm Ron...) but The Hound is, like, my age (28-29), and Ron is obviously a little old for that.

they've cast rory mccann as the hound. i think it's all but confirmed.   http://pds.exblog.jp/pds/1/200511/16/17/d0008917_15273653.jpg

if you check out grrm's not a blog, there have been lots of clues about casting, and then confirmations and such.
here are clues he's dropped about the Hound:

1) the hound is green

2) eat your porage and you'll grow up big and strong

Hmmmmm ... well okay, I guess. He is 6'6" which would make him nearly tall enough to be the Hound (who is described as being just a little shorter than his brother).

The thing is, Eddard is the lead character. He needs to be strong to carry the show for that first round. For example, The Tudors had Sam Neil, of Dr. Grant fame, play a character that didn't hang around too long. He's a famous British actor, and did a fantastic job.

I'm looking forward to the series, but I'm also trying to keep an open mind. I think the show will be closer to the source material than say, True Blood, but if they stray a bit, I'm trying to convince myself that it'll be fun to have a change.
