First post on Craftster! Woot!

Anywho. This is my first homemade costume ever. I thought it would be pretty simple, since it's just strips of fabric, but since I couldn't figure out how to work the sewing machine, I ended up having to hand-sew it all. And then I had to figure out logistics like how was I going to get out of the costume, etc.

It's Leeloo Dallas, played by Milla Jovovich in the 1997 movie "The Fifth Element." My bf went as Korben, and he made me a Multipass, which I waved obnoxiously in everyone's face, shouting "MUUUUULTEEEEEEPAAAA ASS!" The wig was purchased because although I was sorely tempted to bleach my brown hair and dye it with Manic Panic's "Tiger Lily" (which is muuuch closer to Leeloo's actual hair color), my bf objected pretty violently.

The only other part of the costume that was purchased was the bottoms. I thought it would be pretty simple to sew my own, basing it off of underwear patterns, but after three failed attempts, I found myself in Victoria's Secret....and they had the PERFECT Leeloo panties in the exact color and fabric I needed.

So. Without further ado I give you Leeloo Dallas:

*edit: Since I'm not new anymore, it lets me post pics. So here it is, instead of a link. Ta da.

Thanks! I was ridiculously proud of it since I've never sewn anything in my life. Such a simple costume, but I still managed to slice my finger with an Xacto knife and stab myself repeatedly with needles. I'm sure a more talented seamstress could have whipped up this costume in no time flat, but it took me FOREVER. It's high time I learned how to use a machine. =/

Shiny! Looks good.
I agree with the others. That's a great movie.
You handsewed that then? Wow, you must be patient.

I would looove to post the pic of both of us, especially since my Korben is making a goofy face, but he doesn't like his pics posted on the internet. -sigh-

He really looked the part, too. Fake blood and singe marks all over his white shirt. And rips and tears and a missing sleeve... Wish he wasn't so camera shy.
