I love this! I've been wanting to make a dress like this for ages, I even have a bag full of gutted ties waiting, but alas, I got too sidetracked with other projects. I think your dress has inspired me to finish my own finally. Just have to get the commissioned stuff out of the way. I think your dress is just absolutely lovely!  Grin

Thanks everyone for all your comments! I'm pretty sure all of the ties I used are real silk. I usually handwash the dress with my cashmere sweaters and dry it on my drying rack--mostly because I don't trust my own sewing skills enough not to have my seams fall apart in the wash!

This is the most not-necktie-looking thing I've ever seen made out of neckties.  It's just beautiful.

taking the stuff out of the middle of the ties was such a good idea! i've seen a lot ot necktie stuff and kind of never thought about how much fabric+ is actually there. great job, too! nice original take on the concept!

Beautiful. I know what you mean with the intact tie thing. I think this is more fashion, because, you can see it was ties, and you used them differently than all the other tie dresses I have seen. So funny too, because my mom and I were just talking about taking apart ties to make a bedspread. With as great as this looks we will have to get down on it!

I love this! I tried to make a necktie skirt once and it was so heavy and uncomfortable...I never thought to take them apart like you did and now I feel kinda silly haha! Thanks for the inspiration I might just have to give it another shot!

That is hands down the BEST necktie recon I have ever seen.  (Picture emoticon bowing down to your craft divaness here). You really have an eye for matching dif. fabrics together.  If you don't already do patchwork quilting, maybe you should try your hand at it.
