my wonderful friend tanis alexis is due to give birth soon and she requested a needle felted rattle from me. i wanted to make one in black, white and red since these are supposedly best for newborns. the pattern just kind of evolved naturally, i think it looks pretty modern. it's made completely of BFL and corriedale wool, with a small plastic egg and bell in the center (completely encased by wool). card is made by sewknitter.

This is great.  I guess there's no danger of it coming apart, right?  It's a lovely idea.

thanks! nope it's sturdy solid felt, but i was thinking of it being used as an interactive toy anyway, not one you would leave alone with the infant.

That is just fantastic - I love it!  I think I'm going to have to give needle felting a try sometime soon, as I keep seeing such wonderful things that people come up with.  I love that you have thought through each aspect of the rattle so carefully - well done!

what a nice idea!
and it looks beautiful.

it almost seems strong enough to survive a small dog. and as newborns tend to be toothless … :-D
i'm sorry, i don't want to sound harsh or something. but when you talked about sturdy and toy i immediately thought of my dog ;-)
great job!

I love that! It looks so elegant, and you're right about the strong colours standing out to babies.

I love it!  Mind if I borrow your design concept for my baby to be?  And maybe other friends babies?

Nice work, and a good idea with using plastic egg!

That's awesome! I would love to make one for my son. So there's an egg in the rattle center but what about the handle section? what's in the middle of that?
