Oswego, I always get that confused with Owego.  Darn those names.  So you're pretty close to the 1,000 islands right?

Yep - not too far at all! We used to go there all the time for the day when I was a kid.

I think Owego is down towards the bottom of the state, closer to the PA border (although not sure 'cause I have never been there  Smiley )

You're right. I live near Owego.. in Binghamton. We are literally like 10 minutes from the PA border.

I actually grew up in Newfield, I think about 500 people on earth know where that is.  I had to go through Candor and Owego to get to Binghamton...

Interesting side note- I only made it up to the 1,000 islands last year, I had no idea even where it was.  While there, the husband and I saw this gigantic ocean-going ship navigating down the river.  It was surreal.

I definitely know Newfield...our high schools compete in almost every (if not all) sports. I love that there are people from our little corner of the world here on Craftster!   Smiley

I'm in Ithaca--somewhat new.  Anyone know of good wool or fiber stores?  I imagine with all of the farms around here there must be someplace selling spun and unspun wool...

Wow, what a small world we craftsters live in!

I'm originally from Candor (I have family in Catatonk), I've lived in Owego and Binghamton, worked in Ithaca (at Cornell), and now call Johnson City home.

If you're interested in quilting or in cotton fabric (I don't quilt but I love to make summer dresses in great quilting fabrics/prints), I would like to recommend Puckyhuddle Delight in Candor.  It's right on 96 between Owego and Ithaca.  They have a wonderful selection of quilting standards and a lot of not-so-standard prints.  They also have quilting classes and other instruction and it's owned and run by some VERY friendly and helpful folks.

I travel quite often to shop in Syracuse and Horseheads NY, and Scranton/Wilkesbarre PA.

My favorite store in the Scranton area has got to be Beads & Crystals of NEPA.  It's in Dickson City on the Scranton/Carbondale highway just past the Viewmont Mall.  The have the largest selection of gemstone beads I've ever seen and the prices seem very reasonable.  They also carry a huge selection of natural shell beads and pearls, as well as a whole lot of glass beads.  They have a discount program, too.
