I finished my first embroidery piece!:

This is the first block for my Alice in Wonderland quilt. I've never done embroidery before. It was way too hot to do my normal knitting this summer so I decided to try needlework out. Much cooler than working with wool. Smiley

The fabric is just bleached muslin. The design came from a coloring book that I've had for about 20 years.

Most of the piece is done in an outline stitch. Though I used some satin stitch to fill in the shoes and as an accent on the dress. I'm most proud of the satin stitch coming out really even and the eye. Eyes are really tricky. Oh and there is a french knot as the flamingos eye too. I think it took me five tries to figure out that french knot!

Now I'm working on the white rabbit.

Very nice, def couldn't tell that was your first time embroidering! You'll have to post the whole thing for us when it's done.  Just in case you don't already have enough Alice patterns, join the Hoop Love Vintage Pattern Pool on Flickr, there is the cutest Day of the Week Towel set of Alice.  You can just leave the days off when you stitch em up  Cheesy

Thanks for letting me know about the flickr group. I have enough alice patterns for this project but making a set of tea towels would be cool too. Plus I love vintage patterns in general. Smiley

Until I read Mafiosagrrl's post, I thought your work WAS from the Alice DOW set from the Flickr group pool!  Shocked

Welcome to the cool, quick and relaxing world of hand embroidery!  Excellent first piece, keep posting as you get the squares done!
