Cute tea wallet

I used this tutorial -- http://blog.christyscreations.com/?p=482 -- to make my BFF a tea wallet (she loves tea!). I'm a newbie to sewing and this is the best thing I've made so far (I've made roughly seven things in the past few months). I love the fabric, although the bluish fabric was very thin and liked to gather up on the ends.

Your closure looks really awesome. I tried a similar closure on a clutch I made recently but it turned out crappy .

Thanks! I got the idea to use a hair band from this tutorial: http://mayamade.blogspot.com/2009/07/envelope-purse-tutorial.html. It was really easy. I just put the hair band between my thumb and middle finger so it looked like a figure-8 and pinned it like the picture in the tutorial shows the ribbon being pinned. I was actually surprised it held, but it did!

The fabric choices were awesome--my friend picked them out for me and the solid fabric was a little hard to sew on but luckily, the places that bunches up didn't show once the wallet was finished.

Oh, and my friend LOVES it. She said she never has tea with her when she wants it, which is usually at work.

Great job!  I love to make tea wallets as they use leftover scraps and are fast to make.  The fabric combinations are endless.  I also use the hair elastics and sometimes the gold or silver stretchy cord that is used on gift wrapping.
I end up giving them away and when I have a dozen or so, I let friends pick one and one for a friend.  I am amazed how people try to match the fabrics to their friends... "this one likes country, this one is patriotic..." and so forth.

Oh wow, I gotta make one for Mr Scruff, the famous awesome British tea-loving DJ!

(For those who don't know Mr Scruff, he plays a huge array of music and mixes them fluidly. He also sells tea at all of his gigs!)

Lovely fabrics! Thanks for posting the link for this tutorial.... I need to make one for my mother, since she just stated that she takes tea bags with her to work. One of these would be so cute for her to use, instead of a plastic bag!
