Here is my design from GatsbyGirl's towel. Her theme is based around lyrics from X's Fourth of July. I had never heard of the song or the band before, but I really like it. I went with the lyrics that stuck out to me the first time I read it.

In case you can't read it, the lyrics are "She gives me her cheek when I want her lips, but I don't have the strength to go."

When I first got the towel, I was at an absolute loss for what to do. Then I remembered my second grade class. For spelling practice, our teacher would have us write out our spelling words five times each, and I would write them in lines and make pictures out of them. The idea for this design kinda came out of that.

The words are backstitch, the hair is stem stitch, and I am rather proud of the lips, which are satin stitch.

What a great way to present lyrics! I really like the creativeness!

Eek! It's fabulous sixblueirises. I love that line too. One of the reasons I love that song is that it's so visual. I can completely picture the whole story in my mind.

Oh my goodness sixblueirises!  I'm the last to receive that towel... and already the bar is set high!  Great job!!!

OK -- Here's mamaphunk's towel!

Here's a view of both her words & my addition.

Mamaphunk just redid her kitchen to look like it's from an anthropologie catalog with lots of bright colors... so that's the theme for this towel!

I was going to do a nice tulip design I found on Hoop Love, but it was a pain to transfer via the window method.  Luckily, I found this design by Andrea Zuill (might as well rename this tour for her with all of her designs appearing everythwere!)  I didn't do the whole piece, it extends another two/three inches to the top with more blossoms.

I've written more on my blog about my experience so far in TTT5, I don't want to take up anymore space here in the gallery!

ha!  guilty as charged, i guess ... since my first two designs have both been hers.  but i've got plans for my next few towels, and i don't think any of them will be badbird designs.  so more variety from me, i promise!    Grin

ps. i love your little bird design.  and sixblueirises, your interpretation of gatsbygirl's theme is just awesome.  even though it would surely be a challenge, i kind of wish i was getting that towel, too.

I was totally thrilled when I wound up in GatsbyGirl's group because I wanted to stitch on this towel. That still did not save me from the "eek, don't know what to stitch" moment!

Mego, I love that little birdie! He is so cute and fabulous! And mamaphunk, I love your lettering! Looks great. That is another towel from my group I can't wait to get. I've already had to do a trip to Anthropologie for "research" and really might have to do a few more before I feel qualified to stitch your towel. (As if I needed an excuse to wind up in Anthropologie...)

Mego, thanks so much for posting a picture. I'd been investigating the theme but hadn't seen Mamaphunk or your design so had about five things going: "Well, if the first couple designs look like this ..." Now, I know exactly what I'm going to do.

And your bird is adorable.
