I made this piece for something called the Travelling Moleskine project - I got sent a blank Moleskine with a theme (mine was 'Crafty'!) which you fill in a page of and then send on to someone else.

My idea was based on a quotation I found online and typography by my hero, Herb Lubalin.

I designed it on the computer, printed then pressed through with a pencil to transfer the outline into the book. I punched the holes with a needle first then backstitched the design.

hope you like it! More info & pics on my blog and Flickr

It's so beautiful! I just completed my first embroidery on paper, and it's no where near as pretty.

Oh my stars was the first craft site that I  started frequenting, years ago; you have some great stuff!

Fantastic piece of work. The execution of the piece is wonderful.

If this doesn't get to be the pick of the month for this month, I'll buy a hat and then eat it.  Grin

that is gorgeous!  Your stitching is lovely and so perfect.  I believe your quote is a translation of a quote from Hippocrates- "Ars Longa, Vita Brevis", which is my favourite motto.  Here is an explanation.  http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/ars-longa-vita-brevis.html

Ooh, thanks for the link & extra info, that's really interesting - the site I got it from attributed it to Chaucer.

Thanks again all!

does that make me a nerd if I was immediately like "OMG that's a Lubalin quote!"?  Ahhh... typography.
Not actually a quote by Lubalin, just the type style is influenced by him!

I think the work is stunning.  I think I'm the only one who can't make out all the words!

The last word is 'lerne' (old english 'learn'), i messed up that R a little :/ you can read more about the quotation's meaning on my blog.
