not to mention it is the sort of book that once you start reading you finish it before you know it and want more, LOL!

I think I have almost every book in the series but I keep re-reading them and finding new things every time because the nuances change a little as you read the information that is in the other books

Really really love that Anne's son Todd is picking up the series too - he is doing a pretty good job of adding his own flavor to the books but at the same time staying true to the story line his mother set out to begin with, and by stepping into a different point of the history of PERN he is making it easier for the transition to work out

I'm pretty happy with his books too, I don't think he is quite as good of a writer as she is, but then again, she has been doing it for longer! And I actually don't really think DragonFlight and DragonQuest are as good as the rest of the series.  I think once he really gets into the swing of things he will be really good.  And like you said, he is showing us a different view of the world.

I keep re-reading them too!

I don't think I would have liked them if he had tried to set them in the same time frame, but writing them in a time that is different from any of the other books (not at the start of the colonization, and not in the time of the majority of the series) he covers up some of the difference in style a little bit - and I do like some of the characters he is using, and would like to see more of what happens in that time frame, so I hope that he does continue

I have a hard time deciding on a favorite from the series - I like the White Dragon from the first three best of all, but the Harper stories are a close runner up - I especially love Menolly!  Wink

I liked the Dolphins Bell and also Nerilka's Story as well - they brought in something from a different perspective than the dragon riders while still making them a major part of the story

and I really like the MaterSmith, LOL! He reminds me of my dad.  Wink

I like the stories with the white dragon as well, and the Harper Hall and Piemer.  I also like Nerilka's story.

I love Ruth and Jaxom! Menolly is also a favorite, and Robinton is great. I like Fanderel (sp?) too. Is your Dad all about efficiency?  Smiley

he was all about efficiency and he would get all wrapped up in finding a better way to make something work - until he had it fixed to his satisfaction and then he usually found something else he thought needed to "work better" to get all focussed on, LOL! He used to keep a note pad by his bed and things he was fixated on he would wake up from dreaming about them to sketch it out so he would remember the solution he dreamt up the next day.

drove my mother nuts, LOL!

Ooh, I must get organised and sign up soon. I think I have the same favourites as everyone else - Jaxom and Ruth, Menolly, Robinton; F'lar and Lessa are cool, and I've got a bit of a soft spot for F'nor.

You are right Ronda, that so  sounds like Fanderal, and I think it would drive me nuts too!
Yup, F'lar, Lessa and F'nor are all great, and don't forget N'ton!
