Ok, I'm bumping this up.  I can't wait til I get to sign up!  I already have a few things planned, and can hopefully use them for whoever I'm paired up with.   Think I should get started now on things, or should I wait to make things more personalized?

Well, my opinion on that is that as long as your ideas are fairly general.  I was in one of the chocolate swaps and had a perfect cross stitch pattern for it.   It said, "Chocolate, it's not just for breakfast anymore!" I figured anyone that was in a chocolate swap would get a kick out of it, so I started before signups ended so I could actually get it done.  Then I personalized it by sewing it onto a tote bag since she said she needed one.  I also wouldn't make too many things before you received your partner.
Does that help/make sense?

well, another thing I could do while I'm waiting...my craft room is a mess and it's hard for me to be creative when surrounded by mess.  I guess I'm not like the mom in Yours, Mine, Ours movie.  btw, my favorite characters in the books are F'nor, Jaxom and Ruth!  I like F'nor best because he did exactly what I would do in his place, fly off to the star and check it out!  oh...and not tell anyone I'm doing it and thus experience lots of pain and hardship...yep, that's me in a nutshell!!

Right, I've just signed up!

Here's a question for everyone - what do you think the dragons on Pern look like? I know they're quite well described, and I think Anne McCaffrey has stated what they should look like, but I can't help but be inflenced by some of the book covers, which aren't necessarily accurate. Has anyone got any pictures of their favourite type of dragon?

Well, I have the Dragonlover's Guide to Pern, which should have fairly accurate pics as I'm sure she had to approve the pictures.  http://www.amazon.com/reader/0345412745?%5Fencoding=UTF8&ref%5F=sib%5Fdp%5Fptu Alright, in searching for a picture, I found out that apparently there are a lot of mistakes in it! But still, I think that book and the The People of Pern would be more accurate than the covers of the novels.  Here is a pic of a firelizard scroll down. This site has some other pictures of firelizards, dragonets.
I've come up with some ideas too, but I'm still working on another swap so I'll probably wait for partners.

Oh, I get that there's the right way for the dragons to look, but does that chime with the image you got in your head when you started reading the books? I'd always imagined them to be more like classic dragons, and was quite surprised when I saw what they were supposed to be like (I've got the Dragonlover guide too). They are more alien, aren't they? I just did a bit of googling and found some nice artwork on this blog that I rather liked: http://tygriffin.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

I like that pic of Robinton too!

wow, that is beautiful! I really  like it too.
Sorry, I missed what you were wanting.  I think when I first started reading I imagined them as more classic dragons but I've read them enough by now that I do see them much as they are described.  Though their size still surprises me, like the comparison of Ramoth to a 747.
