this is (extra-cute) sparta!

i finally aquired creepy cute crochet. best ami book i've seen so far, even if the shaping methods are a bit different than usual for amigurumi. i've already made cthulu (will post pics soon) and i have an evil plan to make a large army of very small ninjas. but first, i had to make a spartan.



i'm going to dragon*con on labor day weekend. last year, i saw a bunch of 300 spartan costumers. i thought it would be cute if this year, i could get pictures of some of them with my little friend here. oh, the things i do to amuse myself.



i used bernat super value (oatmeal and taupe) and lion brand wool-ease (scarlet). the chain stitching around the shield is black and brown pearl cotton held together. the eyes are 8mm half-round eyes glued on with e6000 (best glue ever. ) the sword is fun foam that i drew on with a sharpie. working in a craft store is a great thing.



this pattern deserves every bit of its epic rating. i seriously mean that. now, mind you, 3/4 of him was really easy. it's that damn helmet that took so long, and i had to rip out three times. of course, after i puzzled it out, it seems so easy... not to mention the hour i would have saved had i counted stitches as i went.



so yes, in short, cutest thing i've done lately.

I started one too when a friend saw my creepy cute and begged me to make him one.
I'm stuck with the helmet right now and I don't have much hope it's ever going to work out.
