o w l s - owls sweater knit along?

Fall is coming up & so I've been itching to start on a big sweater project. I have been enamored with this owl sweater pattern for some time:

Anyone else interested? It uses a thicker yarn, so I think it would knit up pretty quickly!

oh my geez!!  that is the cutest sweater I have seen in a long time!!  I have a ton of gray yarn I have been wanted to de-stash into a cable knit sweater...and I think you may have just provided the best pattern ever for it!  I am in!  I already have a sweater on my needles right now, and I just joined the "two-hour sweater" knit-along (although that sweater should be done in one day) so I may not get to start this one for a bit, but I will def post pics of my progess.

Anyway, that was the long way to say...I am game!

okay, I have started and re-started this sweater more times than I can count now.  But I think this time I have the proper number of stitches for the size I want!  I am making it with red heart worsted weight yarn on size 8 needles, which is why all the adjustments are in order.  But assuming I have it right this time I will start posting pictures of my progress soon!

Yay, my sweater seems to be working out this time.  I am altering the pattern a bit due to using worsted weight yarn, but it is going really quickly.  I did all you see in this photo with only one ball of yarn!  (I love red heart super saver when you are living on a tight budget).  At this point I am only 4 rows away from starting the "short rows to dip yoke" part of the pattern.

weee...first to finish!  Made with red heart super saver in gray.  Knitted on size 8 needles.  Altered the pattern quite a bit due to my yarn/needle combo, and some changes just to fit my body better.  I made it a bit tight under the armpits, but not so bad that I can't wear it comfortably.  I just put eyes on one owl, the buttons are vintage ones from my great aunt Eleanor.  I LOVE my sweater! 



Hope some other people finish soon, would love to see everyones!

I'm excited that there's already a knitalong for this! I'm planning on making this my first sweater and I'm pretty nervous! I've only knit squares and rectangles until now.  I do need to buy the Knitpicks interchangable needles first  I plan on ordering those either this week or next.  I have a question... are the needle size changes necessary? By that I mean changing from 10 to 10.5 or whatever those small changes are. 

Also, I already have my yarn! Eco-Ways Bamboo Wool in Peacock.  That yarn should be ok, right? I actually don't know much about yarn weights and I just realized I might have gotten the wrong thing!

If you don't change needle size the cuffs and band at the bottom of the jumper won't be as snug, not a huge deal though.x

I am not familiar with that yarn but when I looked it up it seems like it may be a bit thinner than what the pattern called for, but I am not 100% sure (hard to gauge much from internet pictures).  The best thing to do is just make a swatch and figure out the gauge before you start.  You can always increase or decrease the needle size to get the yarn to be the proper gauge if you want.

Yea I was talking to lapoli about it the other day and I don't think it's gonna work. I might still swatch it to see but I'm pretty sure I'll have to buy more yarn. I'm not that talented of a knitter to make big changes in a pattern! I basically need to do it exactly by the book.
