I haven't really said hello yet, so...hello.

I was wondering if anyone had some good places to get some patterns. I normally make my own or find pictures I like and redraw them. I'm guessing there's going to be a lot of really cool themes that I'm not ready for, so I want to start looking around. I think I'm going with a bird theme. Anyway, thanks.

HoopLove over on flickr is my fave place to find patterns. If you are willing to buy them check out sublime stitching or urban threads. Clip art also works well if it is redrawn a bit.

Ooh-- I was thinking of doing a bird theme too..

I am not one to draw my own patterns.  I have stuff from Sublime Stitching and Aunt Martha.  Hoop Love on Flickr is a great source for vintage motifs.  Andrea Zuill posts an interesting free embroidery pattern every month.   Needle and Thread has a page with links to free pattern sites.

Anyone else have any online free sources?

I liked the free patterns here at http://www.needlecrafter.com/patterns.html if anyone hasn't posted it yet- wow, does this thread move!
IamSusie- you are so right- I can barely keep up! Tongue

I too, have thought about changing themes, but I think I'll wait until we're grouped, so there's not anymore pm's in rectangle's inbox Tongue
I may end up changing it again- I feel the same way as j_q_adams- I keep seeing things that get my motors running- I started TWO different projects, and not sure if I'm going to use EITHER! Sheesh- I need to make up my mind Roll Eyes

And Hello PaleAngelex  I think I originally posted this message to source out another pattern site

j_q_adams ~ I stitched on sew~amy's towel in T4 and loved it so much that I bought a package of those napkins to stitch on in a recent swap, and I'm tempted to do like you and choose one of those napkins for this tour -- the weave is fantastic!

PaleAngelLex ~ In addition to all the sources already mentioned, I use etsy a lot -- you can find patterns inexpensively there. The cool thing about this kind of swap is that you'll have time to stalk your group-mates pretty well while you're waiting to get their towels and if you can find some cool artwork that is not a pattern there is usually time to contact the artist to find out if you can utilize their art to embroider *as a gift* (important to stress it won't be for sale!) for someone. Also, Dover Publications lets you sign up for a free weekly email that includes a couple samples from various of their books -- I've been getting these for nearly a year! You can sign up for that here: http://www.doverpublications.com/sampler3/. Lastly, a google search for "free coloring book page" and also including whatever kind of image you're looking for is pretty handy.

Here are a few Etsy shops that I found:
- Follow the White Bunny <http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5529370>
- Badbird (Andrea Zuill's shop) <http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=87013>
- Polka & Bloom <http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5766956>
- Sadie & Oliver <http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6493362>
- The Floss Box <http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5453774>

The "_____ coloring pages" google trick has been working well for me, too.

And funny you should mention about artists.  I found a print today that I thought would make a great embroidery design, so I reached out to the artist to ask permission.  Turns out she is a fellow crafter and was flattered that I asked.  She agreed to let me work with her illustration, as long as I gave her credit when / wherever I showed pictures of it.    Grin

My main source is coloring pages & finds on flickr!  Google image search is the easiest way to find coloring pages from multiple sites.

Mamaphunk- I have those, but I still haven't stitched them!  I unearthed the good towels I got at Cost Plus World Market awhile back, so now I have to decide on that theme..

Sadly, Cost Plus World Market doesn't have these nice sturdy white towels anymore.. I should have bought a large pile of them.
