As the title says, this is my first try at filet crochet.
I wanted to try it, but didn't want to do a difficult pattern and I still wanted the initial result to be something I would use, so here it is:

The finished size is about 6"x12".  It's a bit sloppy, but I'm happy with the result.

Funny image... Calico covered fussy Grandma chair with this as doily at the top of the back of the chair. My Grandmother would be appalled... Great job!
