I know it's a little warm for this, but I was cleaning out my craft room and found this neat-o little hat I made last year and also remembered that I have a camera now, so here are the pics!

The finished product:

I have pretty long, thick hair, and I work with little kids, so I usually keep it pulled up into a ponytail. We have to go outside every day for and hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, even when it's really cold. I got tired of my hats not fitting right because of my giant ponytail, so I whipped up this little number to make room for it!

A close up of the little bow:

It's cute, it's stylish, it's versatile, it's practical - nice work!

Two questions:

Is it top down?

Is it symmetrical?  (i.e. is the back as long as the front or did you shape it so your ponytail doesn't have to be right on top of your head?)

It was bottom up, but it ended up being too short (mind you, I made this thing while my babies were sleeping, in the dark, with no pattern), so I added more to the bottom, which is why the stitch pattern changes. I think it looks neat though. You'd almost think I planned it that way! It is symmetrical, but the hole is pretty big, and I usually wear my ponytail haigh anyway to keep most of it's mass off of my neck. The pattern (if there was one) could really use some modifications. I'm not crazy about how open the weave is once it is on my head, and that is something I would like to change. Any suggestions for a different stitch? It's all sc, except the part where the "ribbon" is, that's dc.
