at work we occasionally have these things called shippers (shelves to display products) and when we're finished with them they just get thrown away. well usually they are cardboard so we put them through the compactor and they get recycled but this one was plastic and very similar to the plastic shelves you'd buy at a store. well the boss said to throw them out and my friend Jess (who I work with) asked if she could give it to someone, he said he didn't care as long as she got rid of it. so she gave it to me Cheesy I knew as soon as I saw it that it had to go in my craft room
but it started out looking like this:

which is not terrible but it doesn't at all fit the theme of my craft room. so I bought some "Watermelon" spray paint and my lovely wonderful boyfriend painted it for me.

here it is all pink (pre-stickers):

with my helper kitty (he didn't get to help with the actual painting of this bc he's not allowed outside but he watched from the back door with a very concerned look on his face)

AND Hello Kitty stickers! (and a few Keropi for good measure  Wink )

if you want to see more on my craft room go here:

Omg, squeee! I love Hello Kitty more than is reasonable for a grown woman.

I love your helper kitteh, too. He looks like my 'Rino (who is pictured on my dining table post) except it looks like yours is a Hemingway cat?

Did you use spray paint for plastic on the shelves?

that's a great recycle project. I used to work retail and would bring that stuff home all the time. I also kept some of the shaped signage for use in quilts and stenciling. It's free and sometimes doesn't recycle so why not find it a new home. mine.  Hello Kitty Rocks!

indeed my helper kitteh does have thumbs Smiley makes him most useful in bug hunting and stealing mommy's crafts.
work is great for scoring neat stuff, once Jess (whom I work with and gave me the shelves) found some yarn that had no tags (some kinds of yarn that we don't even sell anymore!) and our manager let me buy like 5 perfectly good skeins of yarn for a buck!  Grin
the spray paint I used was specifically for plastics. it worked really well, although it needed a couple coats to cover the "scotch" on it. right now it's sitting in my craft room, still empty bc I haven't decided what to put in it yet.
