Five days ago I came back home from a Larp (Live Acting Role Play for those of you who have not heard the word before), and yesterday I finally got my butt around to take some photos of the clothes I had made for this occasion.
I played a faerie (not the winged sweet kind that lives in flowers, but the mythological more deadly kind).
My little faerie was based on the flower Digitalis, and my idea with this character was to try to make her look very innocent and nice but really have her sweetly poisonous. For those of you who don't know it might be worth mentioning that Digitalis is used as a heart-medication when the heart fades. It sort of speeds it up I think. Needless to say a big dose of this flower is not very helathy to a normal heart since they're not really meant to beat faster than they normally do =)

Sooo, that's pretty much her, in short words. The idea for the dress have three main influences: 1. The actual flower (long kind of slim bell-shaped white flowers), 2. The emotions Innocense and kindness, and slightly 3. Greek mythology (since I do like the myths around nymphs, and she's pretty much a mix of nymphs and faeries and self-made-up-lore).

Anyway, on with the pictures:

This is the thicker sweater I made for late evenings/nights, since they sometimes get a slight bit cold up here in the north. It's lined with two layers, the inner one being fleece and extremly cozy. (Gotta love playing fae- no need to stick to non-synthetic fabrics. Lovely)

(and oh, yeah - I made the ears myself ^^ hardly clothing-related but I felt the need to say so since it's my first time ever working with latex)

Closer shot at the front

I saw something like this somewhere and liked it so I made my own. First time I've done it, but I really like the result so I think I'll be using similar things again:

The dress:

From behind:

And spinning around- simply because it's so much fun to do so when the fabric moves so much by every single movement. And because there's so much of the fabric too. The skirt is a double full circle, so it's got a width of 13,5 meters (~44 feet). Beat that!

For some reason though I ended up not wearing the skirt as a skirt for a lot of the time...

It's still just as good to spin around in though =D

Come play with me?

That is so beautiful. I love it, and the action shots really show the layers. You look sweet but with a sparkle in your eye that says, don't trust me. LOL

Freaking awesome. Wish I had talent with clothes.

Awww =) Thank you. Although I'm afraid I'm pretty much myself in these pictures. When actually playing the character I've got even more of the don't-trust-me-ness, but in such a way that the humans simply seem unable to stop themselves from trusting her... Very stupid indeed *smiles at the memories*

Well, it sounds like you had a good time and were the best dressed fairy there. I think you look beautiful in that outfit. I may have to see what else you have posted. Keeping the convo active to keep it at the top. Cool

*laughs* That's just awfully sneaky! To keep a convo active just to stay at the top!

But seriously, I was absolutley not the best dressed faerie there... One of the worst actually, people had spent so much energy on theircostumes I felt really lame next to them =)

*sneaks in a link to a picture showing some of the others and points to it*

There are some of my fabolous friends. I am most fond of Morning Light's and Hunt's costumes, but I like the rest to.
You should see their costumes up close... some of them are freakishly well-done and detailed... *sighs and wishes she'd have the patience and skill to make something like that some day*

oh, I have much much more than this when it comes to mythos created around her. But as a roleplayer I'm aware of the fact that I like babbeling about my characters way more than people care to listen, so I tried to keep it short ^^

Very beautiful!

I rather prefer the idea of the Faeries as the "Good People"   - they were called "Good " so as not to offend them, not because they actually were good; they were without souls, and would steal mortals to join them in Faerie -   to the cute little beings who live in flowers.   Cheesy

See "The Trod" by Algernon Blackwood.

Ludi- nono no, we do have souls. I know I took one from a human during the event, so I have at least one *points tongue*
But yeah, I do very much prefer this deeper, darker kinds of faeries than the cute little lame beings they put in children stories.

nfirehazzard- woah, that was high praise indeed! *blushes*

sophieangele- now I have to blush again... it was really not that complicated, so I don't feel very talented for having created it...

That is a really beautiful costume.  I saw what you were going for straight off, I think that not only would people be in danger if they followed you, they'd be hard pressed not to!!  Really nice work, don't be ashamed of it, it is perfect for what you were going for!
The other photos were nice/funny!

I play in various LARPs, but this role in particular is played in a campaign called Weave of Fate, a high fantasy event that's been going on for three years now. I doubt you'd know about it though since I'm not american, and neither is the larp =)

thanks squiggy =) and yes I did. I pretty much always make my own patterns ('cept for when sewing a dress for my sister she had found, and when I wanted to try a historic pattern I had found).
I like it better that way, means you can make up the design as you want it, and it's fun trying to figure things out! (not that this one was much to figure out.. it's pretty much just stright lines)
