Monster Truck Cake

I know this isn't considered a craft. Unless you consider monster truck model building or painting a craft

I just joined craftster.org and figured I would try a competition.



I built this cake for my son's 3rd birthday. He loves monster trucks and I was inspired by all of his monster truck toys. It is all edible except the support structure under the truck which you can't see and the orange car the monster truck is running over.



The bottom cake is chocolate that I cut up and made hills and valleys and then smeared with chocolate butter cream. The tires are donuts with butter cream icing and the truck body is yellow cake made in the Wilton Car pan and cut down into a truck. I covered it in fondant and painted the flames on then I cut out details in fondant and glued them on using water as glue. I placed plastic cake columns under the truck where the 4 "tires" would cover them and iced them with the brown icing to hide them. The tires are attached with wooden skewers all the way through the truck cake which was supported by the columns on a cake board cut the same size as the truck.

For the finishing touch, I smeared brown icing all over the truck so it would look as though it had been playing in the mud before running over the car.

When I first looked at it I thought the truck was a real toy truck it want till you said it was also made of cake that I realized it! What a great cake it what I'm trying to say!
