Thankfully this pattern I did write down as I went!  Inspired by the famous magnetic katamari, but wanting something slightly more life-size and less pointy, I crocheted this one, which often gets kicked up and down our apt's long hallway or hugged and is really cute having around.  If only there were a tiny prince at the helm!

Pattern
Ball Half:
R1 - 6 sc into magic ring
R2 - 2 sc in each st (12)
R3-R20 - inc each row by 6 sc, to a final circumference of 120 sc
R20-29 - sc in each
Leave a tail on one half.

Nub: (make 14)
R1 - green, 6 sc into magic ring
R2- 2 sc into each st (12)
R3- ditto (24)
R4 - orange, inc by 6 (30)
R5 - 1 sc in each (30)
R6 - inc by 6 (36)
R7 - 1 sc in each (36)
R8-9 - purple, 1 sc in each sc
R10 - yellow, 1sc in each sc
Leave a tail of yellow for sewing the nub to the ball.

Sew halves together.  Sew nubs on in rows going around, or a different way to describe it is that there are 6 in a ring around the middle, then 4 in each hemisphere. But all should line up no matter what way you hold the ball.  (I recommend pinning them all [ouchie!] on before sewing.)  Stuff everything firmly enough and it's quite kickable and bouncy.  I used Red Heart for the yellow so it's nice and thick, but the other yarns I just picked for color and contrast.

Yarn colors:
Sugar 'n' Cream - grape
Sugar 'n' Cream - hot green
Red Heart Sport - pumpkin
Red Heart Super Saver - bright yellow

I love this, and I don't even know what Katamari is Wink You used such vibrant colors and it looks so fun. If I had one in my house, I know I'd have to pick it up every time I walked by. Thanks so much for the tutorial- I'll be adding it to my pile of must-do's Wink

I have to ask, what brand and colors of yarn did you use for this? I'd really love to make one for myself!
