This is my first encaustic.  It's 8 x 8 and I mixed the "paint" myself with beeswax and oil paint.  I just hope I haven't been breathing in all sorts of toxic fumes as I've been working.

I love the look of encaustic, nice job! I didn't know one could use oil paints with encaustic, I assumed the color came from colored wax. I'd like to try coating my paintings with wax but fear that the wax will melt under gallery lights.

That's an interesting question.  Gallery lights can get very hot - but I don't know if they are hot enough to damage artwork: encaustic, watercolor or fiber.  I'm hanging this one to see if the wax will fall off the panel.  For now that's my biggest concern.
