Hey there.  I started a Richmond Craftster Meetup group in hopes that we can get together and talk about crafts and experiences, etc.  If anyone's interested in joining, here's the link:

http://craftswap.meetup.com/8/

It's currently under the group topic of Craft Swaps, but that's just because there wasn't one for general crafting.  You certainly aren't required to participate in any swap to be a member.

If you have any suggestions or concerns about the group, please let me know.  Thanks!

I'm so glad you created the meet-up group.  I think it'd be cool if people would offer to teach the group(or whoever is interested) their special skill: screenprinting tutorial, basic embroidery, book making, etc...  I hope more people in Richmond sign up!

I like the share sessions idea. We art teachers do that allot! Do you have a meet up place in mind?

Hey there.

I just looked at the Meetup website and they're implementing fees for organizers to pay on behalf of their groups.  As much as I'd love to meet up with other Craftsters on a regular basis, I don't think I need to pay $9/month to do it!  So as soon as the fees go in effect, our group is being abandoned unless someone else wants to pay.  I figure I can make a Yahoo email group or just plan meetings on here for free!  Let me know if you have any other ideas.

I'd love to have a show and teach!  Sarah, I noticed on the Meetup site that you're interested in learning to make bags.  It just so happens that it's the only thing I know how to do well enough to teach, so that works out!  =)

Hey Beth!  I hadn't picked a place yet because I figured I'd wait to see where the majority of people were located.  I'm in Chesterfield and would love to meet in Southside, but I have a feeling that a meeting downtown or something would be more convenient to more people.  Do you have any ideas?

Okay, I'm off to do my long to-do list, including cut out 58 pieces of fabric!  What a fun day!  =(

That coffee shop, 17.5 cafe, downtown I menchioned before is great. They have an upstairs with a large dining table, and cozy sofas and such. I also keep a baby gate there for Andy, so he can run ragged upstairs. We could plan a meeting there for free. Beyond that, you wind up with peoples homes, which can restrict some people. I'm sure there are other meeting spots, I just don't know them.

I don't blame you for not paying the fee. I wouldn't either. They should get that $ from advertisers, not the groups. Try a yahoo group. That and here on this thread will be good.

Let me know what you want to do, and  let's start recruiting! It'd be fun to get a big group.

Keep in mind too, that times and days can be difficult with kids and jobs. I personally like early evenings early to midweek.

Okay, here's the new Yahoo group!

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/richmondcraftsters/

Invite away!

17.5 sounds good.  The only thing I worry about is the smoke we've talked about before.  With Eliza being so young, I really don't like her around a lot of smoke.  But let's plan on that for the first meeting and I'll see if it bothers me or not.

I don't have a job to work around, but I definitely get the kid scheduling thing!  Early evenings work for me.  I figure I'm probably the most flexible in regards to time and days, so I'll go with the group consensus.  The only thing that might pose a problem is that Eliza's bedtime (6-7pm) is so early that I probably won't be able to stay too terribly long, but ANY time spent with other craftsters will be great!

Anyway, gotta run.  Eliza's teething, so she's very needy right now.  She gets bored VERY quickly, so every day's an adventure!  Talk with you later!

ps...I find it funny that the spell check on Craftster doesn't recognize the word "craftsters".

17.5 works for me, too.  Let's try it out and see what happens.

Hey!  I'd previously put Thur, April 21 on Meetup.com, but would it be okay to meet earlier in the week?  I forgot that Eliza and I are going to my mom's for the weekend while Steve pulls up our carpet and refinishes our floors.  Any other day is great for me!

Y'all rock.

I'm available every day but Wednesday.
Also, are we communicating "officially" on the yahoo group, and ditching the meetup?  I think so, but just let me know.

Thanks.

I think the yahoo group is the way to go.  The other member of the meetup group hasn't joined the yahoo yet, but as soon as she does, meetup is history!
