I made my wedding dress for my elopement to NYC.  I was very happy with dress, and with the whole stress free wedding thing.  We basically had to get a license the day before and pick out a spot, then on the day of meet up with the photographer and then make our way to the spot to meet the officiant.  It was over and done with in no time and then we were on vacation for 4 days.  Awesomeness.  

Enough about how awesome eloping was, this is about the dress.

I used McCall's 4460.  The white fabric is $40 a yard (gasp!) silk duchess satin.  I stared at the fabric for so long before cutting into it.  So silky beautiful.  

I lengthened the skirt so it would fall below the knee.  I knew I didn't want a long dress, what with wandering the streets of NYC, so that's why I went with this pattern.  I wanted something strapless and simple.


The sash is from a different pattern (New Look 6773).  It's blue dupioni silk.  Note the sparkly blue shoes.  They made me so happy, but not so much my feet.  Had a big blister by the end which kind of sucked.

I would not really recommend the pattern.  There's no boning and you need a really snug fit in the bodice.  I made a muslin, but I somehow must have missed marking something because when I put the real dress together the first time, there was some serious bust gaping issues at the top.  Had to rip out a bunch of work (in silk, no less) and take it in.  At least I had to take it in, and not out, I guess.  That would have been a disaster.  Anyhow, the way they have you do the lining is terrible, so I would not recommend following the directions on that part, or really any of the directions.  It's simple enough you shouldn't need them, and they just complicate the situation.

I worked on this sucker forever and it really was a labor of love.  At one point, the zipper pull feel off (don't ask) and I thought all was lost, until super-hubby-to-be stepped up and got it back on.  Tis precisely why I married him.

Anyhow, I was quite happy with how it turned out and just wanted to share.

Your dress is lovely, absolutely lovely.  Congrats on the marriage, eloping really is the best way to do it.
