Hello everyone!  This is my second project I've posted on Craftster.  The first was a crocheted 7x7ft Raccoon Mario rug that sits in our livingroom.  I wanted to keep the Mario theme going since our bathroom has these wall decals already, so I  decided to make a large Question Mark Block ottoman slipcover!

What's inside! Coin? Extra life? Leaf? And how does a leaf turn Mario into a Raccoon, and how does it make him fly... Cheesy

Close up to show that the shadow is cut out from the yellow background with black showing from behind.

Ottoman and Rug side by side

This project was moderately easy but was difficult at times, because I have never worked with vinyl fabric before.  I bought a non-stick presser foot for my machine especially for this!  I hope it turned out okay.  I actually threw it in the trash because I wasn't happy with how it was coming along.  But the bf rescued it and said I should finish it since I was almost done with the project.  So I fixed the imperfections that drove me insane and finished up the slipcover for him   Wink

Any comments are welcome, I'd love to know what you guys think!  Thanks very much for looking.

Seriously... how does one leaf do that? I never did figure that out.

I love it! So much, seriously, and I love the rug and I also love that you have the wall decals. I'm going to show my sister this and she'll probably freak out. Great job. I'm so thankful your bf rescued it.

Actually I am planning my next project already!  It's going to be something similar to those "beaded curtains" you hang in front of a door.  But these will hang in our apartment window, and instead of beads, I'm going to string 8-bit Mario coins...haha!

That is AMAZING! You make me want one for my apartment!

And how does a leaf turn Mario into a Raccoon, and how does it make him fly

You know, as a kid I always wondered about this too. I'd forgotten about it until you brought it up, and I was about to say that it still made no sense to me, but I thought about it for a second and figured it out! It's a nod to old Japanese folklore!

In Japan there's this animal called a tanuki; it's an odd member of the dog family that very closely resembles a raccoon. In folklore, they're known for being somewhat mischievous tricksters and masters of disguise, much like the kitsune (fox). Performing their tricks (like disguising themselves) often requires them to wear a leaf on their heads like a hat, which explains why Mario turns into a raccoon and flies when he gets the leaf Cheesy

How about a "?" box lamp or chandelier with a button on the bottom? Then you could actually jump up and punch the light box on and off! Oh the possibilities...

Awesome! Every home needs one of these.

I think I might need to make oneter I finish the Super Mario Bros. quilt I am making for my hubby. I have 1 block done of the 25 or so blocks I have planned. This block is about 8" x 8.5" and each square/pixel is 1/2" (It was supposed to be a birthday gift but his birthday was last weekend and I have this and part of a 1-up mushroom done.)
