Hi there!  Cool

This is a God.
I have not yet decided a name and history for this God.
But it sure is a God.

I made this mask/headpiece for a contest with the theme "The Ogham". Initially the Ogham alphabet consists of twenty characters. The characters were named after trees or plants and were specifically designed for carvings in stone and wood.
The ogham signs are carved all over those horns.
So for now it is an Ogham God.

Me and a friend are now planning to make more masks and such with the same theme.
Build up stories for them all, how they are connected to each other.
Maybe we get to show them at an exhibition.

So stay tuned Wink

Oh and its made of: horns, sticks, beads, seashells, leather, sculpey clay, feathers, plaster etc.
I think its a little hard to see in that upper left picture, but theres dreamcather-like thingies tied on the horns.
And I kinda always say this but it looks better in real life, it's easier to see what the heck is going on.

Damn this description got long.
Thanks for looking and reading! :O

Here comes the pics, you will have to right click them and choose view image if you're gonna see anything ^^

god of whispers.
god of secret thoughts.
god of forgotten dreams.

The antlers seem to have caught things going by that maybe you were trying to get rid of or forget about.  Then these things are brought back to face you which is uncomfortable, and scary, and compelling to look at.

?  That's what struck me.  This is fun though!  More stuff!

This is so awesomely creepy in a kind of lost-puppy-that-just-might-chew-your-face-off-and-feast-on-your-entrails kind of way.

The God of Runaways, perhaps?

that's crazy intense... creepy and intriguing... i have to keep looking at it, even though I'm mildy frightened.
And I think what is terrifying about the last photograph, is the fact that the body seems disproportioned,  or maybe like there is no body beneath the cloak at all.... and that it looks as though it might float, instead of walk.....

It's freakin' sweet though......  creepy and intriguing.... best way to describe it IMO

I think this is beautiful, and I agree with the other comments: you should definitely make a series! And I think the element of fear that this mask induces adds to its godly nature; it commands a certain level of respect. Perhaps it is the spikes jutting out from its head and the intense gaze of its wearer that makes it so frightening? Perhaps it is a god of nightmares or dark places. It also resembles a boar to me.

This rocks!

another thought.....  perhaps what people find "creepy" is the intensity and wildness of this piece.... he gives me butterflies in that intensely powerful way the dark woods do... does that make sense??  i agree, something dreamy with this god, not only because of the 'dreamcatcher' quality of his antlers, but because, to me, he evokes that 'wild, uncomfortableness' that one can approach in dreams- dreams are the expression of one's psyche, can be a way to reach one's true nature and battle one's deamons (so to speak) and dream interpretation is all about getting to that meat- which can be intimidating, and is frightening if you are not ready to deal with it...  hmmm......  this has got me pondering on different levels than i usually get from craftster....  thank you  Smiley

Have you thought about putting black around the model's eyes the way they do for carnival (at least in Venice)?

http://www.italyguides.it/img/med/venice_carnival_19.jpg

It really adds to the intensity of the thing.

This god has a very mysterious quality about it, as if it is a wild creature that no one knows much about and hears legends of. I like it!
