nushybum, this is fairly easy to tackle! the only annoying thing is assembling the pieces together. but you could just avoid using the lining and plastic canvas altogether, you know. and intarsia isn't as scary as it looks...especially with my charts. just try it out! :]

So, is the plastic canvas idea from SnBN? That's what I heard, but I don't feel like paying for book-shipping to Japan right now so I'm going to wait to buy it. But how exactly did you attach it? It seems like a good idea, I guess you could just baste it in then cover it with the lining, is that what you did?

i've just ordered the yarn for this! i don't usually like knit bags but this one's gorgeous.

which needles do you use for the main bag, by the way?

yes, RedThread, the plastic canvas idea is from stitch'n'bitch, but i couldn't think of a more plausible way to uphold the structure. i mentioned the process in the post and all that good jazz. was it not clear enough? >_<

& ohmystars, thank you so much! your work is uber-inspiring, so i'm really flattered. the whole bag is knitted on size 7 straights, the handles were knitted with size 9 straights. i can't wait to see yours!

That is so cool.

I was thinking, and instead of embroidering to emphasize the white keys, you could always have a row of purl stitch where the keys separate. Subtle, but visible.
This has just been added to my 'things to knit' list.
