I was bored at work yesterday and came across an awesome blog about making bento that inspired me to give it a go.  I went down to the local Asian supermarkets and Asian-run .99 shop for supplies.   I got a cute bento for $1 and whatever ingredients I needed for this tamagoyaki recipe [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja8fCHS4aRI]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja8fCHS4aRI
.  It came out pretty good, tho rolling the egg was quite difficult!  Mine was not quiiiiiite as pretty as the one in the video, but I think it takes a lot of practice to roll the egg like that.  The presentation is very simple since it was my first bento and I was running late for work.

FYI... If I remember correctly the recipe doesn't say what temp to cook the eggs, I did it round med-low since the layer is so thin and you don't want them to burn.  I also used a round stainless frying pan as opposed to a rectangle non-stick tamagoyaki pan and it came out just fine.  I also added some sesame oil, and would ease up on the sugar next time I make this, but overall it was delicious, like the melt-in-your-mouth kind of mmmm.  I made the tamagoyaki last night and left it in the fridge overnight.  I ate it with Jasmine rice (apparently I'm out of my favourite sticky rice) and also ate Taiwanese cucumbers with daikon.  I hope other people like this recipe too... surprisingly easy!

Yeah I've actually been doing it (work)daily... I'm not the super artsy type so I refrain from butchering my food into shapes that look nothing like I intended but the food's been super yummy!  It also gives me an odd sense of accomplishment.
