After a lot of looking for a cheap pattern for a little girl's western shirt, I decided to be brave and try converting a little boy's Simplicity pattern for my niece.  It didn't take much modification-- changing the sleeves to a more feminine length and switiching the sides for the buttons and buttonholes did the trick.  And adding loads of lace and ric rac never hurt anybody, right?

Anyhow, here she is, fresh for a day at the farm.

Thanks for looking!

Just adorable. The shirt is so cute. And what a charmer with those eyes!!!
She is lucky to have a sewing aunt. I am sure you enjoy her.

Thank you!  Yes, my niece is precious and I adore having such a willing model to sew for.  I'm already planning her prom dresses in my head.

My sister and brother-in-law adopted her from Ethiopia 4 years ago, and she's been nothing but delightful (although her older brothers might argue).

buttons and buttonholes!?!  Awww man, this was the perfect opportunity to bust out with the pearl snaps!!  Soooooo cute anyways, and your niece is a doll.  I love the fabric/color/trim combination you chose.  I think its perfect (except for the lack of pearl snaps!! hahaha!!!).

I tried the pearl snaps, but I kept breaking them on my sample, so I retreated and went with something I knew I could do well.

If it helps, they are vintage buttons.
