I found a huge pack of garishly colored cheapy yarn (sometimes my favorite kind of yarn) at a thrift store, and I thought all the odd amounts and colors would be nice for making headbands. And I'm thinking this one is the first of many.
It's such a simple project, and there's plenty of room for embellishments. I'll post the pattern if anyone's interested.

Headband PatternYarn: worsted yarn, in two different colors
Hook: Size G
Ch 2
Row 1: sc 2 in second ch from hook, ch1, turn (2 sc)
Row 2: sc 2 in each ch, ch 1, turn (4 sc)
Row 3: sc across, ch 1, turn (4 sc)
Rows 4-5: sc 2 in first ch, sc to last ch, sc 2 in last ch, ch 1, turn (8 sc)
Row 6: sc across, ch 1, turn
Repeat row 6 until headband measures approximately 17" from tip, or whatever length you are comfortable with. Keep in mind that the decrease rows will add about 1" after this point.
Decreasing Rows:
Row 1: dec across first 2 sc, sc to last 2 ch, dec (6 sc)
Row 2: sc across (6 sc)
Rows 3-5: Repeat row 1 (1 sc)
Fasten off.
Border:
Look on the sides of your headband. See the gaps between the rows of sc? Crochet your contrasting color into these.
In the first one, sl st and ch 1, then sc 2. Sc 2 into each space around headband. For the very tips, sc 3. Sl st into the first space you started, then fasten off.
Ties:
Cut three strands of yarn, each about 54" long. I chose 2 in the main color, and 1 in the contrasting color. Fold them in half and pull loop through the tip of the headband with your crochet hook. Pull yarn through the loop and tighten.
Braid the yarn, then make a knot when the tie is long enough. I stopped when mine was about 12" long.
