What size hook did you use?
If I remember correctly, it was size H.   Smiley

Thank you again to everyone for the kind comments!  To those who requested the Excel doc over the weekend, I will send it to you as soon as I get home from work today!

I've been crocheting for years and I've never made anything more complex than an earband with a button-hole lol! This is beyond amazing. Anything Mario related is cool in my book. I've never thought of using granny squares for pixel images. Oh the possibilities...!

I love it, and started a granny square Mario-themed project of my own, inspired by yours.  I have a question, though.  As you were sewing the squares together, how did you determine what color of yarn to use when you had two different colored squares touching?

This is a really good question. Also, did you just whip stitch the squares together? (I think whip stitch is the right term...?)

And I'll be PM-ing you shortly =] Once again, this is awesome  Grin

Ok, so this inspired me a lot and I'm now planning to do an 8-bit Bowser blanket!  Thank you!

First of all, this is AWESOME! Perhaps one of the most epic things I have seen in quite some time!

I'm actually in the process of making one for my friend for Christmas. I'm having some problems getting my granny squares to look so nice and perfect, though. I was wondering if you could give any pointers about what you did and how to get granny squares as nice as yours.

Thanks!

I love this! Mario is the best.  I love old school video games. I can't believe you are a beginner.

Thanks for the Excel file!

Anyone that is going to attempt this: Has anyone considered making it a blanket instead of a rug? I have hard wood floors and I can see myself flying across my living room (no pun intended). That and I would hate to put it on the floor lol

I'm considering making it into a blanket, too. The only problem is that adding a background adds between 400-500 extra squares, but I think it would be worth it. It would make a really nice bed spread, and someone could even hang it on the wall as a big Mario mural of some sort. I just haven't decided if I want to put in the extra money/time/effort! Haha.
